There are always questions before having any treatment or procedure carried out. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions.
If your question is not below please contact me via E-mail or through the “Contact us” section of the website. There is no such thing as a stupid question so please feel free to ask .
How long does it take to preform an areola and nipple tattoo?
Usually it takes between 30-45 minutes per side per sitting.
If only one breast (Unilateral) requires tattooing your appointment will last for approximately 1.5 hours. This will include setting up equipment, placement and design of the areola and nipple and the time spent tattooing.
Bilateral appointments are allocated 2 hours.
Does it hurt?
After mastectomy surgery and reconstruction, a lot of people have very little to no sensation or feeling within the breast, in this case the tattoo will have minimal to no pain. However some experience heightened sensation. In this case we will recommend a topical cream to numb the area before we start. You may still feel some pain, but this is usually very mild.
Can you tattoo over scar tissue?
In most cases yes. This is part of the reason I hold such in-depth consultations, as I can evaluate your skin and scar tissue to make sure it is suitable for the tattoo. Time heals most scars, the consultation will be able to tell me if your scars are “ready” or if you need to wait a few more months before you are healed and settled fully.
I have already had a medical tattoo which has faded but still visible, can you do anything with it?
Yes absolutely. 84% of my clients have already received either medical or cosmetic tattooing after surgery, which has faded or completely disappeared over time. At your consultation we can discuss your options and produce a permanent areola and nipple tattoo for you that will never fade or disappear over time.
Will a tattoo pop my implant?
No way! Tattooing needles will not penetrate or pop your implant.
How long after surgery do I need to wait before I can get this done?
You would need to wait at least 6months after your final surgery. The time you need to heal and recover fully will also depend on if you have had chemotherapy or radiation therapy treatments. I require all clients to be at least 6months clear of their last chemotherapy treatment. If you are unsure about anything please contact me.
I am on medication does that matter?
I would need to be made aware of any medication that you take before any treatment or procedure.
How long have you been tattooing for?
I have been tattooing for 8years. This has given me extensive experience working with individuals different skin tones, textures, scarring and stretch marks.
How long did you train to tattoo areola and nipple tattoos?
My training was over the course of four months, I was personally mentored by the founder of the course.
How do you differ from PMU artists?
Cosmetic/PMU artists use Semi-permanent pigment for their work. I use permanent ink for all of my work.
My training also differs from PMU, medical and cosmetic artists.
